GovBot Census Geography
Read-only access to U.S. Census Bureau geography: address matching, the Census geographies that contain an address or point, and lookup of states, counties, tracts, places, districts and other areas by GEOID or name. No account or sign-in is required.
Sources
- U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder (benchmark Public_AR_Current, vintage Current_Current): address matching and the geographies that contain a matched address or a coordinate pair.
- U.S. Census Bureau TIGERweb (tigerWMS_Current): states, counties, county subdivisions, census tracts, block groups, incorporated places, census designated places, congressional districts, state legislative districts, school districts and ZIP Code Tabulation Areas.
Each result states its source service, layer vintage and retrieval time. Records are read live from the Census Bureau and held for up to ten minutes to limit repeat requests.
Available operations
- Geocode a one-line U.S. address and list the geographies containing the matched point.
- List the geographies containing a latitude and longitude.
- Find the congressional and state legislative districts for an address or point.
- Look up one geography by GEOID, list geographies within a state or county, or find geographies by name within a state.
The MCP endpoint is https://geography.govbot.ai/mcp.
Scope and support
Geocoded coordinates are interpolated along street address ranges and are not parcel or building locations. Layers carry different vintages. An unmatched address is not evidence that the address does not exist. The service does not determine property ownership, parcel boundaries, hazard status, eligibility or legal jurisdiction. GovBot is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Census Bureau or any government agency.
